Emily spends most of her time feeling frightened. To help her to be brave, she constructs monsters out of colour and mixed media. The monsters protect Emily and help her to explore the world. Emily feels so tiny and the world is so big, but the monsters are bigger.

Emily is an artist who documents and explores her experiences in a childlike and playful manner. Using contrasting publications, such as children’s colouring books and adult magazines, Emily juxtaposes melancholy themes with innocent attempts to understand.

She is a synesthete, which has allowed Emily to develop a dynamic relationship with language and numbers, along with a mischievous love of colour. Emily uses a range of media: paints, oil pastels, inks and anything else that helps makes a really good colourful mess.
