TALES FROM A FOREST

A walk through a forest becomes a theatre of imagination. Sometimes you doubt where you are and you worry where the track may lead. People often suddenly appear then go again. They seem unburdened and self assured in that monotonous, tree after tree, yet strangely beautiful setting.  It is the “otherness”, that detachment from our everyday which fascinated and so I entered that other theatre of image making with intent to connect an audience with mystery, intrigue and feeling. My purpose is to draw into narratives and memories and lost concerns, their own and their relationships with those of folklore.

Influenced by the subconscious, the work is produced through the minds sight. Using the organic qualities of the material, the paint takes a life and a meaning of its own.

It is the process of making that is rated, and the process that demands respect. By altering the materials, a metamorphosis of the intentions creates a chance aspect. This creates an alternative identity, which in itself demands attention.

I have been making images, manipulated photographs and paintings to emotively associate with introspection and cognitive contemplation without ever providing an y specific answer and have been doing so for over fifteen years.

I gained an MA in Fine Art from Wolverhampton University in 2011 and I am still based locally with a studio at Eagle Works, near Chapel Ash.
