Alex will also be presenting live streams of new portraits throughout the exhibition program including key worker interviews.

This exhibition presents the portraits created by Alex Bird, during the coronavirus pandemic. His work is a celebration and recognition of all the hard work that key workers have been doing throughout the year 2020. Each portrait is a documentation of a moment in time for the selected key workers. Alex always wants to deliver a raw, honest perspective about his subject models, drawing them as he sees them, often through hyper-realism.

To be on the 'Frontline' is to be the line of soliders closest to the enemy, often sent out first when war is raging and least likely to come back home. The title of the exhibition reminds us of the sacrifice key workers make in time of crisis by continuing their jobs regardless of the risk involved. It also provokes questions around what support networks are being provided to those who are working in the most active and necessary postions on behalf of others.

Alex will be gifting each portrait created to the key worker involved.

Alex Bird is a West Midlands based artist who works with Graphite and Charcoal to build multiple layers which eventually forms into emotive realistic portraits. After studying at Margaret Street School of Art and achieving a BA and MA in Fine Art, Alex is now a studio holder at Asylum Art Gallery and Studios in Wolverhampton. He has spent the last year focused on refining his drawing skills and is now looking to enter more group exhibitions and portrait awards.
