Rachel Shakespeare is a conceptual, mixed media artist and poet based in Wolverhampton.

Much of Rachel’s practice is predominantly working within her local community, mentoring and assisting others to find their voices, through art, spoken word and re-connection.

This lockdown photography work Inside/Out Covid 19, came about in response to the initial lockdown period and her desire to combine her daily hourly exercise routine, with her need to retain connection with her community.

Many friends and local community members were keen to take part, over a period of two weeks during April and their responses to having a doorstep visitor were revelatory.

Many families had not had a single visitor at this point, not even family members and this can be reflected in the photographs, both joy and a deep concern during the uncertainty we were facing.

The work has also been shown in several online exhibitions and wall projections throughout Wolverhampton, London and Staffordshire.
